Does Your Home Reflect Your Personality?

Does Your Home Reflect Your Personality?

Ever walked into someone’s home for the first time and your reaction was - Wow, this is so you!

There’s always that first impression we get when we meet a person for the first time, and it’s the same with our homes.

Your home is your sanctuary; it’s the one place where you can be yourself. When decorating our homes, we tend to easily fall into the trap of following trends and ignoring  what we really want our home to look like. Inspiration can be found anywhere but ultimately, the way you decorate your home should be a reflection of your personality.

Ways how we can reflect our personality through our Home:

Colours

Apart from being a representation of who you are, choosing the right colours and patterns for your walls and furnishings is crucial because colours affect our moods and emotions.

Dark colours are usually associated with bolder and edgier personalities whereas bright colours and large patterns are associated with more outgoing and social types. People who opt for more neutral colours tend to be more introverted and laid back.

Furniture

This is the one that causes us the most headaches in terms of choices and prices. Your furniture should be both cosy and practical.

Homes with lots of storage and simple designs are a reflection of people who are logical and calm, and like to plan things out. A living room with a large comfy sofa and plenty of seating is usually a depiction of someone who loves to entertain.

Accessories

Your personality can be easily displayed in the different accessories around your home.

You may be a shy or quiet person, but those bold patterned curtains or bright cushions on your sofa could reflect your positive outlook in life. Resist the urge to impulse buy accessories. The collection of objects you choose to display in your home is an extension of who you are and should be curated wisely since it should give you that crucial “there is no place like home'' feeling. Surround yourself with the things you love.

Wall Art

This is something not everyone understands and that’s okay. What you choose to decorate your wall with can also reflect who you are. Whether it is something that appeals to the general public or something more controversial can also reflect your social personality. Those with an open personality are usually more drawn to complex pieces whilst those who lean towards conservatism tend to opt for more traditional and straightforward art.

Lifestyle

It is important to make sure your home reflects your lifestyle. How you feel in your day to day life should be the same when you’re in your home and your place shouldn't suppress your happiness. One must also consider how much time is going to be spent at home and how much time one is willing to dedicate to take care of their home.

Chances are that someone who has a tendency to be organised in life would have a clutter free home and value space. The more outdoorsy type would probably have a home full of plants and flowers.

When decorating your home, design a space for the life that mirrors your lifestyle and don’t be afraid to change it as your lifestyle changes.

The trick is to find a balance between beauty and comfort… but most importantly to tune in to your intuition!
